Bugs, Boots, and Boanerges
My wife and I are hiking the Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage this week!
We’re currently busy hiking the same pilgrimage route followed by Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand, 500 years ago. They sent out Columbus! Like them, we’re going to see the bones of the Disciple James. Jesus gave James and John (who were brothers) the nickname Sons of Thunder (Boanerges in Aramaic)!

Each year around 300,000 people hike the Camino de Santiago! Tens of thousands of those people spend over a month walking across Spain, starting in France! We’re following that same route from France, but we’re only doing the last week. Still, that’s about 70 miles, and we’ll hike it in about a week.
We’ve been training for a year. Each week, I’ve been hiking at least 12 miles, which includes the equivalent of taking the stairs to the top of the Empire State Building!
What We’re Reading
The girls will be in at a sleepaway camp while we’re hiking. My 13-year-old is bringing The Screwtape Letters with her. My 10-year-old is bringing Double Fudge by Judy Blume. I’m planning to read Don Quixote while on the Camino.
Weekly Printable
To celebrate hiking, this week’s printable is called Bugs and Boots, and it’s all about words for hiking!
