Patience is a Virtue
Good fruit takes time to grow.
Everything worthwhile takes time. Bread has to rise. Cheese has to age. Gumbo has to simmer. Fruit has to grow and ripen. As people, even we take time to grow.
As parents, we need to remind ourselves that raising our children is a long process. They need love, boundaries, and consequences. We also need patience with them, which can be hard at times, especially when they lose their patience and have a meltdown at that family dinner at your cousin’s house (real story).
This week’s printable is the first in a series on values and virtues. Use this week’s printable to discuss patience with your children. Listen to what makes them frustrated. Talk with them about how good things take time. Listen to what helps them calm down. We also have some coloring sheets to help you talk about waiting for good things like Christmas, birthdays, and even just waiting in line for ice cream.
What We’re Reading 🤓
I’m reading one of the Discworld books from Terry Pratchett. The Discworld series is a comic take on what the world might be like if magic were real and the earth was a flat disc flying through space on the back of a giant turtle. My 13-year-old is reading the Percy Jackson series. My 10-year-old is reading the Judy Moody series.
👨👩👧👦 What We’re Up To
We’re getting slightly cooler here in Texas, but it’s still warm enough to swim. I’ve been cleaning out the garage and getting ready for fall furniture making! When my kids were smaller, I spent many hours in the garage making imaginative beds for them. One was a castle with little turrets, and another was Trolly from Mr. Rogers. Now that they’re older, I’m making a coffee table, for grownups!
